Art Psychotherapy - With Chloe Sparrow
Art Psychotherapy
Art Psychotherapy is a form of psychotherapy practiced by qualified, registered Art Psychotherapists. It can provide you with an opportunity to use artmaking to explore issues or themes that are relevant and personal to you and can be used to explore a wide range of difficulties.
Art Psychotherapy is not the same as an art class or recreational activity, it is a form of therapy, offered in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. The purpose of artmaking in Art Psychotherapy is to facilitate personal growth and greater understanding of the self.
Artmaking is used as a tool for self expression rather than something to be ‘good’ at or not. Therefore no skill or experience is necessary in order to engage in the Art Psychotherapy process, but a willingness to engage with the art materials is preferable.
In Art Psychotherapy you will be encouraged to reflect on your artmaking process and you may find that particular themes begin to emerge through the colours, shapes and concepts in your artwork. You will have the opportunity to pay attention to these themes and explore them further with the therapist.
Outdoor or Nature Based Art Psychotherapy
This is an approach to Art Psychotherapy informed by Eco Psychology and Environmental Arts Therapy practice. It can involve working both inside and outside of the Treehouse Art Studio.
This approach is about working with nature, the aim is to explore how the natural world can support creativity and psychological wellbeing by examining our relationship with the natural world from a psychotherapeutic perspective. Artmaking using natural materials or settings will be encouraged.
Creative Workshops
Creative Workshops can be tailored to meet individual needs or interests. I will use my skills as an artist to support you to work creatively on a project or theme that is meaningful to you.
A creative workshop is not a form of psychotherapy, although the experience may feel therapeutic in the sense that it may allow you to slow down and concentrate on a task for your own enjoyment, sense of fulfilment, or satisfaction. Workshops can be arranged for individuals or small groups.
